In Week 5, EU Society member Victoria Tirefort delivered a presentation on “Humanitarian Aid in Ukraine.” The session focused on the humanitarian consequences of the ongoing conflict in Ukraine and the role of the European Union and international organizations in responding to the crisis.

The presentation explored the impact of war on civilians, including displacement, infrastructure destruction, shortages of essential resources, and the growing need for emergency humanitarian assistance. Victoria discussed the challenges faced by humanitarian organizations operating in conflict zones and highlighted the importance of international cooperation in providing aid and protecting vulnerable populations.

The session also examined the European Union’s response to the crisis, including financial support, refugee assistance programs, sanctions, and partnerships with humanitarian agencies. Members discussed the political and ethical dimensions of humanitarian intervention, as well as the long-term implications of the conflict for European security and regional stability.

The presentation encouraged thoughtful discussion among members about the relationship between human security, international responsibility, and the humanitarian role of the European Union during times of crisis.
